Celebration Cruise Line Receives a 4-Star Award in 2011 edition of Stern's Guide to the Cruise Vacation
In 2009, the Bahamas Celebration came under new ownership and took over the short-cruise Fort Lauderdale to Nassau route vacated by the Regal Empress of Imperial Majesty Cruise Line. In 2010 it switched its home port to Palm Beach. The vessel began life as a car ferry, and in spite of its numerous renovations, experienced cruisers will find the layout, condition, and facilities unlike most ships in the South Florida cruise market. However, cruise rates are among the least expensive available and the cruise line provides excellent dining as well as a full cruise experience; numerous dining options, a fully stocked casino, a variety of entertainment, and around-the-clock activities. Most passengers will consider this a two or three day opportunity to party and/or introduce their children to cruising.
Most cabins are quite small at 140 square feet; however, there are also many 86 square foot "coach" cabins that are primarily sold to passengers traveling alone or on a tight budget. Most cabins have double beds with an option for an upper bunk and bathrooms with shower, sink, and toilet. Many have TVs but no refrigerators, private safes, or hair dryers. Storage is very limited, so don't bring too many clothes. The cruise is very casual and therefore dressy garments are not necessary. The 12 deluxe suites at 269 square feet and 30 additional staterooms labeled suites at 253 square feet are larger, have sitting areas, minibars/refrigerators, flat-screen TVs, and additional storage.
Dining options include the Crystal Restaurant, offering five-course lunches and dinners as well as wine service, all on a par with more expensive, mass-market ships; Rios, a buffet-style venue with roving Brazilian gaucho carvers at dinner; Trattoria Di Gerry, a small, help-yourself Italian buffet featuring pasta, pizzas, salads, and sweets; an outdoor buffet and grill facility atop ship, open for breakfast and lunch; and the Cove, a fine-dining, reservation-only option for those wishing for more upscale fare, at $25 per person surcharge. Our dinner at the Cove was exceptional.
Most families elect a short cruise on this line, affording an introduction to cruising for their children. There are supervised age-appropriate programs throughout the day and early evening. on top deck there is a 180-foot slide as well as a children's splash pool.
